Last Thursday, (Feb 8) Protégé was premiered @ Causeway Bay HK. Many fake poppy flowers were put up at the site. But the seas of flowers could not beat a rounded Anita in catching the limelight.

Anita, gave birth in November, has not slimmed down yet, the reporters on seeing could not help laughing at her. Even Andy mocked her, puffing up his cheeks, Anita could only smiled with twisted lips.

Anita said she is weaker because of caesarean, , the dr suggested she rests for 3 mths before she keeps fit, she could not help it. Andy who is good at keeping fit offered to take her as student, imparting to her methods of slimming. When the reporter doubted his ability, he quipped, "Isn't it the same for a fat lady to lose weight, running on the spot 45 mins can burn calories."

"I know, please don't be so outright with it!"

At the media meet yesterday In GZ, Andy gave exceptional sighs with emotion on the mention of this phrase as in the movie Protégé. He showed his helplessness on the directors who are always so straightforward & valued only his commercial value, so much so that his endeavor in acting skill is neglected.

At the interview he admitted this inferior feeling.

When asked how he would spend his Valentine"s Day, he answered, "I go home, my mother is my lover."

Is it a sensitive issue in the circle or in movies?

"This topic is something we may encounter in our daily lives, so it is not sensitive. Perhaps the views in HK & mainland differ in some way, so the director has quite a lot of interaction with the workers in the mainland."

Derek said this is the first time HK movie is closest to drugs?

"I think he means in reality, as everything that happened was true, we connected the story together.'

When asked if he was ever succumb to the temptation on drugs?

"I really don't understand why the others want to choose drugs, drugs cause so much harm to the body. It is beyond our conscious control, I grew up in low social economic condition, I have never seen or come into contact with drugs, I feel that it has nothing to do with the circle, as there are 200 mil drug addicts in the world, not all are from the showbiz."

Andy has given himself a 99 marks on his performance in Protégé, & said it is his most satisfied movie,

"Because the director trusted me so much, he gave me a lot of space, other than on the first day he told me abt some of his requirements, after that almost everyday he would tell me after shooting, “V good, it is like that.'

This type of trust is v important to me, so this movie can be said to be all belonging to me, if no one likes it, that means the method I portrayed is wrong. Previously I didn't usually think how I should act, whatever the director wanted I did, but I did my best. Many directors make me don't resemble Andy at all, but I believe even if today I become fat & ugly, in acting I can also touch the audience, my limit is if a role harms others or affect my life, even how much the pay is, I will not act."

"The character in the movie actually resembles me a lot. Other than identity, I am just like him, I trust my friends, I love my family, on certain aspect I feel inferior. Actually I have always feel inferior with my acting, I always thought no matter how I act I don’t get it right, though I do not express out in real life, actually my inner self feel so. This character also has this side of him."

"Actually I hope the character I play always bear some resemblance to me, such as Love On A Diet, the way he handles love is like me, in Infernal Affairs, Lau Sir always want to be a good person, I too keep thinking how to be a good actor."

"There is a phrase in the movie, whenever the director said it, I would feel very painful.

Anita told me, "You must leave, if u don't leave we will have danger."

I answered, "I know, please don't be so direct."

I understand all the directors asking to shoot movies is because of my commercial value, but can you all please don't be so outright, we as actors when we are home in the middle of the night can feel very painful when we think of this."

Pausing for a while, he continued, "All these years, Leon, Aaron & I have been carrying the baggage of idol, but I feel that all these years we continue to change, the 3 of us Heavenly Kings have not disgraced the idol status, step by step we move forward."

Andy is busy with the shooting of Ci Ma, his 2nd installment of Asian New Directors project is underway, "Focus First Cuts is the main & important item of our company, though I am busy with shooting, the company staff has begun with the preparatory work, the most headache part is still the funding, we have to go to different places to raise fund. So before the fund raising is done, the concrete plan is not confirmed yet."

Nobody ever said my acting is good, I can endure till today is already not bad.

Of the 7 lunar new year movies introduced by Easy Finder, after some online voting, the one with the most number of votes is not a funny comedy movie, but one that talks on drugs. Protégé with drug as theme, breaks the tradition of a Chinese new year movie, don’t ever expect any scene that can give you good omen, the ending has no comical trailers. Andy will not be in long Chinese cheongsum singing to u 'Gong Xi Fa Cai'.

What is in Protégé is drug trafficking, bloody gory scenes, & the darker side of trafficking. The first scene of the female lead, Zhang, was one of her in smelly perspiration, looking down & out giving herself injection. She was made ugly with dentures.

Louis too forgoes his suave look with dark eye rings & a denture that makes one vomit, it was smeared with dirty stains of a smoker. He leaves a deep impression as an addict.

Many other Western & HK movies too had classical roles on addicts. In praise of the actors willingness to scarifice look & their professionalism, they are commended here.

Deannie Yip in The Unwritten Law acted as a prostitute who took drug, & was not able to reunite with her son acted by Andy. She used drugs to dumb herself, her acting was excellent, her lawyer son Andy even fought a murder case she involved in, & reunited with her, the movie wins hearts & tears.

10 years ago, he was said to bother with his image a lot, & had been criticized by Derek Yee as one who refused to sacrifice the look in acting.

On this matter, Andy still feels being misunderstood, & said he feels the pain very much, as at that year he was not as bother with what other valued him.

"Perhaps we are getting older, we are able to face with more things, as idols the actors really need to have the endurance. But today what the director can see of him is not late, in future if there are good roles can get me to act." Andy: Yes yes yes, I always chat with him, talk on life. Haha! His views are from Buddhist point while I have not reached that stage, I listen. My view is living is more important, what is after do not think too much. Life, past, death, how I will be in the other world I wont think, if my father is still alive I am good to him, after he leaves, it is no use if I pray to him every year.

2 nights ago Andy, Louis & Daniel were @ HK De Fu mall for the charity premiere of Protégé. As it was a weekend, many fans were at the site to support their idols.

The 3 men fought from reel to real, at the activity they vied for popularity. Fans of the 3 actors occupied almost the whole mall, esp fans of Andy & Louis, they tried to see who out-screamed the other, it was a bustling sight.

Andy is especially popular, other than having fans groups scattered all over the mall, holding banners , HK Charity committee cum chairman also gave him a bear hug. Foreign maids commented, "Andy is so handsome!" Louis have many supporters too, including foreign maids.

Louis said he has no scene acting opposite Andy in the whole movie, he met Andy only during the promotion.

The actors had dotting the eyes of the lions ceremony & lighted electric fire crackers.

Together with the children they wrote calligraphy Fu (fortune). Andy who is good in calligraphy held the little girl's hand to write. This made Louis do the same to his group. Daniel who does not know Chinese stood aside to watch.

Andy hopes there will be a sequel to Protégé, in this episode his role had died, but the storyline can still carry on. Louis also in support of a sequel, as the cast is interesting.

Is Andy interested to have a prequel for Kun Ge? Andy said, "don't kun (tease) me la,"

Andy is always afraid of mouse, it was said when Andy was watching the first premiere in HK, when he saw mice crawling on Zhang Jing Chu's corpse, he escaped to the toilet, on this, he pretended, "I don't know there were mice in that scene, but I'm really v afraid of mouse, the nature arranged for me to be urgent at that moment, if I had no choice I will also close my eyes."

Andy felt that he was actually v gentle, & not the rough type, he was not shocked, but felt funny! This was not too absurd, it was a polite peck. He can accept it as long as the action is not too absurd.

Will he be more careful not to get too close to his fans? He replied that he would not, those who like him may get too passionate or agitated, but they would not harm him.

Both males & females want to take advantage of him, will he reject more of the males? He said all girls maybe better.

Protégé held a press conference in Shenzhen 2 days ago, Andy & Daniel attended.

Andy admitted his role in the movie is not much, his intention of playing the role is to lead the newcomers, to continue the tradition of mixing the new & old in movies. His look in the movie is also a breakthrough,

"At first I was a little worried, not sure how I wouldl look like. But after the make-up then I knew, it was to make me have the feeling of a 50 over year old feeling! Actually I am not too far from this age!"

Daniel said this is the first time he acts opposite Andy, he had always thought Andy is a god, after one week then he saw Andy as a human, he sleeps & eats. Acting with Andy is like meeting an strong tennis opponent, he feltl stronger himself too.

Yesterday the set of Protégé were in Guangzhou for promotion. Heavenly Andy chatted with the media, he disclosed that after so many years, no one has ever said his acting is good, he has inferiority complex with his acting.

Though both in & out of the circle, he is a well acknowledged as hard working, he indicted, "Actually I am not a v hardworking person, just that they do not have other words to praise me, so they say I am hardworking."

Andy appeared sickly in the movie, he said by playing the role he does not feel he is old, he feels like a 40 something, on his acting, he said, "No one has ever said my acting is good. In the movie acting as an aged drug trafficker, other than cruel, cold, pretentious in character, he is like a common man who loves his family a lot. On this character, Andy admitted on some parts he is very much like him in real life.

Peter Chan’s big period epic, Ci Ma, is being intensely filmed at the moment. A news report from mainland yesterday disclosed that mainland actor, Guo Xiao Dong, who excels in playing literary films lead roles of & is internationally famed for it had met up with Peter yesterday.

The two had a cordial discussion, & reached an agreement instantly, an alliance was formed on the hot commercial movie, Ci Ma.

On Derek acting as Miao Sir, Peter gave only the suggestion, "We had audited many actors, at the end I suggested to him that he did it himself, after all he had many scenes acting opposite Andy & Daniel, with so many stars in the movie, I feel that he can manage them well. At first he disagreed as he had not acted in movies for years, after a few days he accepted."

These few mths Peter has been in BJ shooting Ci Ma. It was said the crew had a fight with the locals thus hampering with the progress of shooting. On this, Peter indicated it is impossible to have no problems with such a big set, fighting is not only that once, it happened often. There are 800 over people, not including the actors, how can there be no problem, but most of the big scenes on action & battles have been filmed, the remaining parts will be smoother.

On the action scenes in Ci Ma, Peter stressed it is not the usual wuxia genre, it is impossible for a person for a person to fight with few tens or hundreds, "What Jet Li can do are the real fights, the actors appear stronger in the movie, but definitely they are like normal people."

As for the controversial role played by Xu Jing Lei, Peter indicated it was not included by the investors, she was hand-picked by he himself.

"Some people said her role was inappropriate in Confession of Pain, but in Ci Ma her role is different, it cannot be said to be inappropriate also, & not impossible for 3 men willingly to die for her, how do u know the 3 men die for her? It was the old version of Ci ma, (Blood Brothers), my story is different, I am still changing the script now. There is no right or wrong in shooting movies. Everyone can have different views."

Andy---One who loves himself will not take drugs

In real life, Andy hates drugs the most, on those in the circle taking drugs, he said, "I really cannot understand the artistes, singers, if they feel they can sing better after taking drugs , why do they want to depend on external factor then own hard work? Some feel it is fully of character to take drugs, they can enter into a world different from others, these are wrong concepts, if you want to look full of character use your dressing."

Andy, Daniel & Louis attended the charity premiere of Protégé. On the scene of Zhang Jing Chu after her death was bitten by mice, at the premiere, Andy suddenly left his seat to visit the washroom when the scene was being screened. Once when shooting at TVB, he had to act with the mouse once, as he is so afraid of the mouse, the scene was taken separately. One of the actors did not believe him, used a white mouse painted black to frighten him, he gave the other person a heavy punch!

Yesterday Andy prerecorded a video clip for CCTV in BJ to greet TV viewers a happy lunar new yaer. Andy who had performed in Spring Gala night before indicated, "It is a regret that I cannot take part in the show this year. Hope there is a chance for me to be on the stage in future ."

Valentine's Day is around the corner, Andy said he has 5 days of holidays to celebrate the CNY. For Valentine’s Day he will be in HK, but has no lover. Daniel admitted he will pass the day with his gf, they have not celebrated for 3 yrs, they just had a meal together.

Andy, Daniel, He Mei Ting & Derek were at the press con in BJ yesterday. Zhang Jing Chu & Louis Koo were absent due to work schedule.

In the movie, Zhang was bitten by 40 over rats after her death. Andy is famous for his phobia with rats.

What was his feeling on seeing this? Looking relieved, said, "I was not there when the scene was shot, I declare clearly, no matter how good the script, how high the fee, a sking me to act with mice, I will reject them all!"

When asked if there is anyone who can take over his place in the circle, pretended to be angry, said, "I'm still here! Now I am here, I have not left! (Laugh). Perhaps the market for HK is not as big as before, so the newcomer has less opportunity. Now HK shoots only 20 movies in a year. Even one like me (veteran) still filming, the newcomer has less chance to be outstanding."

Was Daniel excited shooting the hot bed scene with Zhang? He said happily,"I'm not! I had filmed a lot! What is there to be excited about! But she was. On the first day we met, we discussed on this scene, we prepared early. During shooting we had the set cleared, so it was over in one take.

It was acting with Andy that he felt the tension, "On seeing him at first, I felt he was not human! He is god! So scared of him! After one week, Andy then became like a normal human to me, On seeing with my own eyes then I understand, he has to eat, drink just like us."

At the premiere a night before this, Andy led the actors to walk the red carpet, just like a big boss. He played the director role on the spot, behaving & enjoying the bossy status, he told the fans, "Listen carefully, I will not say too much even if u watch this movie 10 times!"

Music writer Mark Lei Song De will marry his gf Jade after CNY. Jade was once a model, after dating Mark she has kept a low profile in the circle.

A reader Wing Chui reported to me (the writer) that when Jade was a model, she had acted in a MV with Andy before, called 'Following Me With All Your Heart'.

It was a song in 99. In the MV, Andy acted as a car racer, by zooming pass her many times he hoped to attract her attention. In the MV, they had several episodes of eyes contact, finally Jade because of losing to Andy in the race, kicked his car tyre to vent her anger.

In the few eyes exchanges in the MV, a sun-shades perching on the head, she looked charming, her looks has not changed much, still eye-catching.

Protégé had a grand press conference in BJ. Andy, Daniel & He Mei Ting , & director all dressed up to attend . With media from all around the places, they tried their best to sell the movie.

At the interview, Daniel said he used to think Andy was a god, after working together then he feels that Andy is a serious worker.

On this, Andy said actually everybody is human, when the reporters asked who is the god in his heart, Andy replied that his family members are gods in his heart. On work, everyone is the same, there is no human or god.

Asked on his performance in Protégé, Andy said in every movie he always puts in sincerity, if everyone does not feel so, he will improve in the next movie, the most important is one must be hardworking. It is a big challenge for him to play a drug lord, to him, however, the greatest challenge is still in Love On A Diet.

On the upcoming Valentine's Day, he has applied leave to go home, though the set of Ci Ma will be shooting in Hen Dian during the CNY, he was given 5 days leave to go home. Who is he spending Valentine's Day with?

Again he played Tai-chi, smiling, "Valentine's Day, I go back HK, with whom, nobody yet."

From Valentine's Day to CNY, some reporters asked on All Fool's Day. On mentioning of April 1, he turned serious, "After the death of Leslie, no one in the circle called it All Fool's day anymore. This is a sad day for all."

Protégé had a premiere cum meet-the-fans session in BJ Eastern New Century movie city last night.

Director Derek, lead actors Andy, Daniel, Louis, He Mei Ting & others attended. At the ceremony, Andy had the highest popularity index, few hundreds of his fans in orange tees were at the cinema very early in the day waiting for his arrival. The cinema was packed to 'no flowing space for water'.

After 15 mins of meeting, Derek led the leads to watch the movie. According to the distributor, 400 over copies had been distributed country-wide, hopefully it dominates the screening slots after official opening on Feb 13. To make sure the movie becomes No.1, after BJ, the leads will carry on to the next legs @ Shanghai, Guangzhou Shenzhen & other places for further promotion.

Protégé was premiered in Times Plaza in HK 2 nights ago. Main leads Andy, Daniel, Louis, Anita, director Derek & Peter Chan attended, it was a bustling sight. A conglomerate of Andy’s fans was there early to cheer for Andy.

Andy acting as a drug lord in the movie is a breakthrough for him, he committed suicide by cutting the big artery in the neck at the end. At the premiere, many audience had a big response to this, the scene was shocking.

On this scene, before shooting, Andy had thought of using long lens & high angle to depict, as in the making of heroin. But he learns that the movie despite using sensitive issue of drugs as theme was approved in mainland, Malaysia & Singapore & others, with the original version, no alternation of endings, only in some sensitive scenes it was cut off a few seconds, he is v delighted with this. Said, "If movie makers can use different themes to shoot movies, HK movies can open up a wider market."

Derek praised that Andy has put down his idol baggage this time, Andy smiled that he can put down the baggage, at the same time he is happy to be an idol, so if Derek wants to shoot Full Throttle again he must get him.

Andy has flew to BJ yesterday morning to shoot Ci Ma, estimated he can have 2 days holidays to go back to HK for CNY.

On the car crash in BJ, & the set had a tiff with the locals, Andy indicated he is not clear what had happened, it was rumored he was injured, he really does not know why.

Andy has been nominated as Best Actor with ABOW at the Asian Film Awards, said, "Not nominated is fine too, if it can make the industry prosper in more places, the goal is reached."

On his failure to get nominated at HKFA, he smiled that he should be fighting with others, as ABOW promotes non-violence & universal love, he is happy without the nomination.

Anita was pregnant when she filmed Protégé. She had public appearance for the first time after birth yesterday, after careful make-up. But she appeared clumsy getting up the stage, needed assistance of Andy. She had worn a 4" high stiletto, & the base of the shoes had a sticker stuck to it. At the premiere, the actors held torches to light up the fire, symbolizing a hot launch.

LengLeng who is afraid of fire hid at the back, after the stuntman had performed eating fire, & blowing fire then she went up the stage embarrassingly.

Lu Chuan's new movie, Nanjing!Nanjing! was a hot news recently, as it was rumored to have failed to pass through the censor board. Yesterday Lu Chuan's asst Miss Liu at the interview confirmed that the movie has been approved.

One Nite in Mongkok centers on an assassin escaping from mainland to HK , who got emotionally involved with a low class prostitute. 2 Young portrays the love of the youngsters & pregnancy, it was like a lively sex education.

Protégé has a script that Derek has made extensive research on, because of this touching on drug trafficking, it should be standing tall in HK.
