2001 Blockbuster Movie Awards ceremony was held yesterday in the afternoon at Tsim Sha Tsui Planet Hollywood. Andy & Sammi were voted as the Hk Taiwan Most Favourite Male & Female Film Artiste. Combination of the duo attracted close to a hundred reporters & many uniformed fans.

Andy won the award with the movie AFB & Needing U. On the stage, his fans presented him with a plaque bearing a giant star, wishing him to be a prominent star in Hollywood.

Andy indicated that he will not go to Hollywood. Instead of waiting for chances there, he would rather stay in HK filming, unless the script is v good. He said roles in Hollywood for some Asian actors tend to center around sex, gambling or drug. It is not a must to go to Hollywood to make movies. Movie such as CTHD, dubbed with foreign language has done equally well. Actually a few yrs ago someone had approached him to film Yueh Fei & Zheng Chen Gong. To go Hollywood one does not necessarily need to know English.

If the actor just because of speaking English in the movie, cannot act naturally, is useless. In filming FTK, Takashi has no time to learn English, so the language was change from English to Japanese. Half of the movie was done talking in Japanese. He admitted learning Japanese is the toughest thing in his life.

Asked what role is the most testing for him now? Andy said it is for him to act as a beautiful woman He lacks the confidence.

LOAD collected almost 20 mil in 9 days. Andy is happy, he wishes to thank Johnnie To, as his actions as fat guy were learned from him.

Andy hopes to narrow the gap of the box office between Western & Eastern movies. He said actually Needing U box office was quite close to a Western Movie. This yr finally can overtake a Western movie. HK production may not be comparable, but if the script is local enough, & good, moviegoers will still choose a HK movie.

He hopes to be involved with movies of standard, he felt guilty with some lousy movies he had filmed before , but he wont mention whh one!

Andy is not confident to win Best Actor with LOAD.

28/6---This am leaving Changchun for HK, but the hour long waiting at the airport is really like one year long. Because the friends here are really too hot, the warmth of people turns the airport into a chaotic situation, the chaos lasts for a long long time, other than worrying the safety of all of you, I feel sorry for causing inconvenience to the other passengers…..

Changchun Stadium, located outside the busy city, was abuzz with life on 27 June. Starting from 4 pm, all streets leading to the stadium became busy. At least 100 traffic police were stationed to maintain order. Other than Andy, many famous Mainland singers & popular dance troupes were there to perform for a grand concert.

After Mao Ah Mian, the stage welcomed the last singer, but the main lead, of the concert. Amidst loud screams, Andy came onto the stage with the song Silly Child. He told the audience, "I hope to see as many of u when I hold a concert in Changchun next time." Immediately came the loudest resonant applause. Mnay fans stood to scream that they love Andy. They waved the light sticks enthusiastically. Andy sang 4 songs. 2 were Love U 10,000 Yrs & Water Of Forgetfulness. After singing Chinese he vanished into a car prepared for him., leaving fans in suspense.

The audience of 40,000 were most enthralled. The concert was delayed by ½ an hr because of too many people. Some young fans with tickets but couldn't get in cried as they cannot see their idol.

Headline: Andy Lau's new movie 'Dr.Lau' shelved

HK International Film Exhibition was officially opened yesterday. Response from film dealers were brisk. The director Andrew Liu was at he booth to boost the exhibit. He was interviewed by CNN. He said all those lining up for filming, such as Ah Pi's Sword, Black Panther, 'You Ling Story', are taken seriously by them. The movie which gets quite an attention from the public, to be acted by Andy & Shu Qi, Dr.Lau, has been laid aside.

Liu said they had thought of the movie last year . Andy will act as a psychologist, & to start filming in June. Without their knowing it clashes the storyline of the movie by Richard Gere 'Curing All Woman's Heart' As he didn't wish to be said a copycat, he is now putting the movie aside. He has rewritten another script on police last month. The cast will all be the same, the Chinrese title temporarily fixed at Man At 40.

Another movie to star Dick Cheung & Andy, 'You Ling Story' is another one promoted by TeamWork.

Liu said abt 30 mil will be put in the story based on walking corpse. He co-writes it with another person, & hopes to break thro; the common story line on corpse. The scene will be taken in Mainland, he will put up a scientific futuristic scene for filming.

Andy arrived at Chang Chun yesterday to attend Chang Chun Grand concert. He caused a big stir in Chang Chun.

Thousands of fans eager to see Andy turned the airport & hotel upside down. It was really unbelievable. Andy was shocked too, "If I did not see it personally, I wont believe the fans are so 'mad'."

When the plane landed, he could see the barricades of the landing ground encircled by layers & layers of fans. When the plane came to a halt, a gp of 'mighty' fans broke thro' the security condone & rushed into the tarmac. They ran for abt 400 m, & surrounded the plane. The situation was chaotic.

Andy did not realize what happened at first, As he was preparing to alight from the right side of the plane, a big gp of fans rushed up from the left side, calling out for him, he was scared & returned too the cabin with the assistants. After some negotiations, the security finally agreed that only Andy alone was granted permission to go thro without customs check!!! But Andy insisted to follow his assistants. After much difficulties, he alighted from the plane & reached the customs, not knowing that the place was already packed with even more fans, He went by the back door finally.

When he arrived at he hotel, he got a fright to see the magnitude of the crowd, few thousands of them, shouted, "Liu De Hua I love U!"

They were 'kind' enough to leave a narrow passage for Andy to pass thro' at the hotel door, but Andy was led to the side door. When the target changed direction, the fans rushed to the same direction., this caused the glass door to shatter to pieces. Luckily no one was injured. Andy reached the hotel room safely after surmounting much ' hardship', under protection of 40 to 50 securities.

But the fans refused to leave, under the rain they continued waiting. With umbrella, newspaper or hid in telephone booth or just soaked in the rain they waited. Accordingly until midnight there were still fans. Ther reporter invited Andy for dinner, but had to cancel the appt.

The concert was held last night, weather turned for the better. The clerk praised Andy," When u come the weather turns good, just like your album, 'Opening Up Of the Sky'"

Some teenage fans of HK crooner Andy Lau might have to miss his Nov 17 concert here because of O level exams.

After Life! Reported on Monday that the Heavenly King would be performing here on the Nov 17, a sec 4 student using the pen-mane of Capricorn gal wrote in.

She lamented, "I've been wanting to watch him in concert for my entire life.

"But, as you should know, I will be taking my O Levels at the end of the year….My parents would never allow me to go the concert in the middle of my O Levels. I am v v disappointed."

She added that 'many 16-yr-old students would be delighted' if the 39-yr-old star could postpone his concert by a week or more.

Ms Adrina Chua, the asst manager of concert organizer NMG Entertainment, told Life! Yesterday that her company was offered only the Nov 17 weekend at the S'pore Indoor Stadium.

She said all other weekends were already taken up & added that the singer is already scheduled for other performances in other places.

Full Time Killer starring Andy & Takashi Sorimochi opens in early August. In this movie, Andy uses many different types of weapons, v professional indeed. He is using 'bullets' to 'kill' box-office in the summer holidays, leaving not one behind!

The movie opens in the 2nd half of summer holidays. AFB produced at 28+mil, collected 20 mil, was a winner. Production fee doubles in FTK. This movie ia armed with bullets to 'kill' box-office.

Andy is confident, "As kiler I use only bullets, don't need to use 'money bomb'.
" I have confidence with the box-office. But of course I use 'money bomb' too, as the movie took 3 mths to shoot, Takashi's lodging & food was over 7 digit. Later have to use abt a mil to do the promo, I have confidence it will do better than AFB."

Though first time as killer, Andy is not lacking experience with holding guns, But it is the toughest this time, as real guns were used.

"Don't think I am full of style holding the gun, so suave, actually it is only acting, because the gun is v heavy, the heaviest is one M82A1 rifle, weighing 30ib, it is as heavy as the fat man's mould I wore in LOAD."

M82A1 is the commonest artillery used at present. It was first used by Afghanistan rebels army in 1980, & is the gun used by army of most countries .

The other gun used was G3A3, before loading, it has a length of 1025 mm. To hold such heavy gun & to run, shoot & to remember to look good, is no easy task. It is also a test of stamina! When the director shouted 'cut' he would drop the gun immediately!

Headline: Not wary of image, not scared of hardship, Feng Ren Shou one word: Andy's acting skill surpasses Leon Lai

Eastern & Western movies are all out this summer holidays. Many heavyweight movies such as Pearl Harbor, LOAD, Fighting For Love, Tomb Raider have good box-0ffice. Qs are long at the cinemas. This is a good sign for HK market. This can help to increase standard of HK movies. Good movies need not worry abt box-office.

In LOAD, Andy & Sammi both acted as fat guys. During filming both were had really gone thro' lots of hardship. The writer knows they have to go thro' a special make-up, wore heavy mould, filming outdoor under hot sun, it was really miserable. After a few hours, when they removed their clothes, even the under clothings were all wet. Sweat could be squeezed out. This is not at all exaggerating.

Lately Andy is more mature in filming, esp with Johnnie To's movies. Andy listens to Johnnie To's a lot. He wont give Johnnie insufficient time because of his singing commitment. At the shooting site he whole-heartedly acted. He is v professional in attitude. With the heavy outfit, burnt till pimples pop out, still he never complained a word. This is really worthy of praise.

Previously the director after working with Andy, complained that he gave too much ideas & his time was difficult to meet. But lately this has not happened. The directors are all full of praise rather than criticism.

In contrast, Leon Lai, in acting, is unable to be as professional, & to meet Andy's standard. He feels he is more as singer than an actor.

The reason why Andy is always ahead of Leon in movies is actually because Andy is v 'into' acting, has standard of professionalism.

Good news for LOAD (Ming Pao)

2 days ago was Dumpling Festival, it was raining heavily but this did not deter movie goers, the q were as long.

Collection for LOAD on that day hit HK$2,865,845, high at the top. PH collected HK$ 955,990

TR collected1 HK$745,195.

FFL HK$403,735.

After 5 days, LOAD is leading far ahead of PH.

26/6---Today leaving HK again, I am going to Chang Choon in the afternoon. I am going as performing guest for an opening ceremony of an exhibition.
As the weather in Chang Choon is the same as in HK, raining, the rehearsal is cancelled. Together with the staff, watch TV in the hotel, some what bored!
Hope weather is better tomorrow. Better don't rain, as the stage is open air, don't wish everyone to get wet & catch a cold.

After completing the promo activity in S'pore, Andy returned to HK yesterday. He was spotted at the airport donning a light purple tee-shirt. It was just eye-refreshing to see.
[…humm…sounds a bit 'jealous'…He looks good in all colors & types, no wonder is the envy of all.]

Yesterday was Duimplings Festival. Andy was back home for the festival. Many fans were at the airport to receive him, many come with kids on tow, the scene was rather chaotic.

Headline: LOAD countering Western movies this summer

Since opening, movie LOAD tops daily at the box-office. It netted 2.9 mil on Sunday alone. This result is a rarity nowadays. .Though the writer does not like this movie v much, but it is good news that HK movie is welcome by many. Also the leads effort in becoming fat ought to be acknowledged.

On the total collection, Tomb Rider still tops with 27 mil, after 7 days. LOAD in 5 days collected more than 10 mil. LOAD beats PH temporarily. Fighting For Love after 2 weeks has box office of 15 mil, it is an average collection.

Needing U collected 35 mil last year. It is yet to be seen how well LOAD performs.

Headline: White, light... and fighting at 40 BY YONG SIEW FERN

It made a prominent appearance when he released his 1997 hit, Chinese (Zhong Guo Ren), in which he sang about the oneness of Chinese all over the world.

He has performed it wearing a white Chinese gown.

In his concerts, you can always count on an all-white outfit. One featured a mere chest harness. And there have been tight white T-shirts and singlets.

Last year at the 19th Hongkong Film Awards, wearing a full white suit, Andy took home the first Best Actor award of his 20-year career.

As if unable to tear himself away from the spotless hue, Andy met Singapore reporters on Saturday wearing white again.

The melody of his song, Chinese, still played in your head as you watched him seat himself and nod at every angle possible to every camera pointed at him.

It didn't look like there was much of a chance of him suddenly standing up and championing the virtues of being Chinese.

Earning a living there like fellow Hongkong colleagues Jackie Chan and Chow Yun Fat has not crossed his mind.

"I feel that we now have to fight Jackie Chan and Jet Li for a piece of the movie market," he said.

"If you are still capable, I think you should still work for your home base. It looks like they are using the Chinese to fight the Chinese market."

Spoken like a true patriot? Or just Andy at 40 wary of new risks?

"At 40, I still feel like I haven't achieved much. There are still a lot of things I can do."

He has over 100 movies to his name. Now he says it is getting hard to create and get interesting roles for himself.

His latest much publicised role is that of an obese man who helps a girl of similar circumstance lose weight.

Sammi Cheng, his previous co-star in Needing You, plays the other big half in Slimming Pair.

In the movie, both wear rubber body moulds to look the part.

Andy said he did not even attempt to put on weight for real because "you can't even get that fat if you try".

"If you want me to put on weight, sure. But the script and directing must be worth it. If I put on weight for a role in a movie that messes up, what is the point?"

Andy, who is in town to perform and be a judge at Channel 8's Star Search Finals 2001, said he certainly won't be a doing a grow-fat trick on TV.

Surviving in the business is also about managing the scrutiny into your personal life.

Asked if he has any intention of having a family of his own, Andy replied: "Yes I do. And when I do, I will let you know."

Ther winner of Star Search 2001 is a Shanghainese. At interview he said his objects of learning are Andy Lau & Chow Yin Fat, as they are always striving to be better & set for the peak.

Andy on stage joked that after watching the newbies, he feels the pressure as to how to do better in future. At interview he commented the female champ has star appeal & good in all categories, but he would prefer to choose another newbie from Shanghai to film movie, as she is agile in skills.

This call has made Pei Fen's mood v high since last night. Her mother said, "After the call, she was so happy, she called her friends to share the happiness.

Pei Fen said she was extremely happy, this was the first time she talked to him, "He still remembers who I am, he said sorry as he was v busy, has no time to see me in person but he promises to see next time when he is here, he asked me to take care of myself".

Pei Fen's condition deteriorated once before & had pleaded her mother to allow her to see Andy. Her mother couldn't find Andy but Andy sent a tape to her later, he sang & told her story.

She is Andy's fan since age of 7. Andy promised to send her a poster & album autographed by him thro his company. He would arranged time to see her if possible in his Nov concert.

25/6---Back to HK today, many came to receive, maybe because today is a holiday.
But it is not my holiday today, as have to leave HK again tomorrow, so today I am quite busy ya~~~~Back to office for a few meetings, to studio to record a song, luckily still have time for a meal with family members, Time is v fulfilling!

24/6---Today as judge of the Star Search organized here, never expected most of the contestants' performance are v outstanding, like professional, compared to the first time I was on stage, such a big difference……!
On the table many asked me, how to be the star of tomorrow?! Actually other than non-stop improving & learning, when the opportunity comes, must catch hold of everyone, but before the opportunity comes, still continue to strive, then can see result.

23/6---This morning the sky still dark, eyes still couldn't open, must go to S;pore for the promo of new album. From the stage where I signed autograph, looking down, l dots & dots of heads, can used 'thousands people filling up the street' to describe this activity!
Nite time had a friendly match with the national bowling player, ,. high flyer is really high flyer, I learn much from the game!
