A special warm regards to a fellow AWC Indonesian fan:
Dear friend, I feel very sorry that you were stranded outside the Stadium even after the concert had started, without a ticket. With the little info I had on the concerned person who did the booking for you, I hope the security guard managed to lead you there. Please drop me a line. The despair & lost look on your face in my mind all the time. I hope you enjoy the concert! Please come again to S’pore, & worry not okay…
18 Nov 01 @ 1410hrs [Note that News on Andy (17/11) was included in the 'Prime News' section of the paper, & this news today at 'Home News', a rare feat for an entertainment event!]
BY 8 PM, it was full house in the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Heavenly crooner Lau captivated the crowd with Cantonese and Mandarin songs. -- DESMOND WEE The crowd of 9,000 or so, mainly female fans, waited impatiently for Hongkong pop star Andy Lau.
But they had waited to see their idol in the flesh since 1999, when he held his last concert here, so what was another 20 minutes?
While he may have kept them waiting, he did not disappoint. Dazzling in a shimmering white trenchcoat and green-gold trousers, he belted out Xin Lan (Blue Heart) to open the concert.
By 8.45 pm, he and his team of 16 dancers had done a quick change. They came out in tribal loincloths to match the tribal theme of the songs.
He emerged in flowing sky-blue trousers, bare-chested except for a matching strip of cloth down the front, an ensemble that would have marked out most 40-year-old men as fashion victims. Not so this scream-worthy crooner who turned 40 in September.
At one point, he made a dramatic re-entrance, rising from below the stage in a silver Audi convertible, dressed in tight black trousers.
As he switched between Cantonese and Mandarin songs, the crowd screamed and waved banners and light sticks. He was their Heavenly King and they were in heaven.

Andy has secret concoction to preserve voice (Shin Ming Daily 17/11)
(More news coming up later...)
To prevent voice loss, Andy spends S$22,000 consuming cooling tea.
Andy, non-stop from HK to China & now in S'pore for his concert gig, has voice as good as ever. This is due to the special recipe concocted by his mother. The cost has increased from the initial 0f HK$100 a day to HK$160. The cost in a concert tour has also increased from HK$8,000 --$10,000 to HK$80,000---100,000. His recepie is open to all on his .com He drinks it once a day. The only thing he remembers is from 6 bowls of water simmer till 3 bowls. His parents are now touring China, so did not follow him to S'pore.
Tickets were all sold out, why is he not increasing another show. He replied that it was due to lack of slot in the Stadium, & stressed that in all things, do just the right the amt, no less no more.
933 manager presented him with S'pore Hit Awards Most POpular Singer award trophy to him at the press con yesterday.
He is nominated in Golden Horse Awards but he does not pin high hope. He said history has shown that it is v difficult for comedy movies to win awards.
He hopes to be nominated every year, & maybe become the first person to get Best Actor award at age 60!
Till April, he holds a record of having received a total of 292 awards.
As his fans are of all ages, he is responsible not to expose excessively, so as not to give a bad example.
"Eat durian for a breakthrough!" Andy joked. He does not like to eat durian as it might give him pimples & a bad breath.
Asked how he could captivate the 3 generations? He quipped, "I have been around long enough."
Andy has left for Macau this early morning.
It was a sold-out & very successful concert at S’pore Indoor Stadium last night!! Hooray to Andy & his crew!! The audience (‘notorious’ for being passive) was a change last night. Almost all, even at upper levels stood up to cheer, waved & screamed…

Title: Hoping to meet hunks?
Friday, 2.30pm: Sheraton Towers Hotel, Andy Lau's press conference
As early as 2pm, a small crowd of Andy Lau fans, in orange T-shirts, queued patiently in line to see their idol in a meet-the-(fanatical)fans session that was off-limits to the media.
About 200 members of his fan club turned up eventually.
When approached, his fans either gave the press a dirty look or refused to be interviewed. Only four Taiwanese fans obliged.
Their representative Jessy Lan, 28, insisted that they didn't come to Singapore for him, but thought they might as well pop in to see him.
They have seen him "so many times we can't count," but the thrill is still there.
When we finally got to see Andy in person (the press conference started at 3.20pm), he was a shadow of his postered self.
A huge poster of a robust-looking Andy was the backdrop of a spartan stage.
Dressed in a sporty red jacket, matching shoes and snug jeans, Andy, 40, looked gaunt. Still dashing, but tired.
Perhaps his China tour, which went on for a few months, took its toll.
But bring up his supposed weight loss, and he became defensive.
"No, I don't think I lost weight. Over the last five to six years, my weight has been the same - between 65 and 68kg."
But he said his mother makes sure his voice remains good and strong by making him expensive herbal tea.
He said: "The tea is to protect my voice. It costs HK$1,000 ($234) a pot.
"She used to make tea that cost only HK$100 per pot. I'd rather drink those!"
Andy might have been laughing when he said that, but one wonders if this shrewd businessman - who is the boss of his own record label - was joking.
Later, the hotel rolled out a cake.
As Andy made his way to the cake, he clapped me on my shoulder and said, in Cantonese: "How are you?"
Even though we had never met before.
He was that friendly.
As he walked past, I caught a whiff of his fragrance - fruity and subtly sweet.
Now I know a heavenly king smells vaguely like papaya.
I asked him about his cologne.
He replied: "I'm not wearing any. I'm all natural. Maybe it's my hair."
I didn't get close enough to sniff his floppy, soft hair. He was whisked off to meet the TV cameras before I had my chance.
Date: 17 Nov 01 Andy arrived in S’pore yesterday just before noon. He had press con till 4:30 pm, followed by a fan club gathering with his fans. Abt 200 in all, some are from overseas, HK, TW, & Australia....,Welcome!!

Headline: 9,000 fans for Andy Lau gig
ALL 9,000 tickets to Andy Lau's concert tonight at the Singapore Indoor Stadium have been sold out just three weeks after going on sale.
Heavenly King Andy Lau will be performing sizzling Latin dance numbers tonight at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
This puts the 40-year-old Hongkong star's Summer Fiesta 2001 gig on par with Irish boyband Westlife, whose concert in May pulled the same number of fans.
But the year's biggest live act so far is British bad boy Robbie Williams. He attracted 9,500 concert-goers last month.
Organisers of British singer Elton John's gig are hoping that more than 11,000 fans will turn up at his concert next Thursday.
Lau arrived in Singapore yesterday.
At a press conference at the Sheraton Towers Hotel, the singer, who has been nominated for his first Golden Horse acting award, which will be decided next month in Taipei, for his role in Love On A Diet, said that he will be putting on Latin dance numbers tonight.
His new movie, Ai Jun Ru Meng (Love Like A Dream), co-starring comedienne Sandra Ng, is expected to be released by the end of next month.

“I thought you prefer to marry him than to duet with him.”
“I want to marry him-----in music! You silly, today not talking on other thing!”

14/11---Tell u an interesting story: one day I met the dance teacher Sunny. He limped as he walked, as if he had injured his leg. I went up to ask how was the injury. As I asked what caused the injury, it makes me laugh! Actually he had injured his toe nail, he was careless while cutting his nail & injured it, it became painful when he walked. I laughed not because I am happy to see him injured, but never thought this time Sunny was injured not because of dancing, but due to a pair of scissors!

Title: WAH, LAU !
Andy is back to wow us
Andy, More!
So how’s it like in heaven?
Well, that depends. Make a wrong astral turn, suggests HK heavenly heavy Andy Lau, & u may not find yourself cooped in Para Para purgatory.
But spread yr angel wings carefully, & ….ahh, eternal biz awaits u in the entertainment enterprise. ”I want to be acting & performing still when I’m 50, 60,” he says. ”And I want to display a more mature side of me. If u still see me dancing hip-hop or Para Para for my current concert, that will be incongruent with my status & age.”
Touche. But to be fair, it is not as if it’s a disparity anyone can spot. Tan, lean, and sinewy, the 40-yr-old impresario looks more like a man who is still tugging teeny heartstrings than one who has your mother as a great fan. Wearing a blindingly-bright tracksuit & streetwise sports shoes, Andy is plopped on a plastic chair in a spartan dressing room of the HK Coliseum. The setting: an hr before his concert. Day 10 of his 15-day Summer Fiesta Concert 2001 series, is due to begin. Still rehearsing & juggling last minute production details, the man voted Most Popular Male Singer in the recent S’pore Hit Awards, explains why he decided to slot ballroom prances into his gig. ”It’s the kind of dance a mature man should be learning.”
But of course, there is more to his 2 ½ hr concert than tacos & sequined sequences. Discounting the 36-strong musical dossier that depicts his accolades Past, Present, Future & in the quarter termed today as Andy in the Movies, the concert is a multimedia behemoth that’s a splashy concoction of stage equipment worth a whopping HK$40 mil (S$9.4 mil), outrageous costumes like Red Indian togs seamed up for HK$580,000 (S$136,000), a 3-m long, 15 kg motorized Jurassic playmate shipped over from the US, water cascades, fire torches a la Survivor, 30-odd dancers & a different guest every night such as Karen Mok & Na Ying.
But when conversation circles back to the S’pore leg of his toured force, & how much of the action ticket-holders here will get to see. Andy gives the impression that some thing are beyond even his divine intervention: “ A lot of things are still giving me a headache. The item least likely to be freight over would be the dinosaur because we cant dissemble it & transportation fees are v high. Much, of course, would depend on whether the organizers would be willing to fork out the money.”
A strange statement, considering the penny-pinching persons mentioned are NMG Entertainment, of which Andy himself is a partner. But we suppose this is what it means when you’re no longer Andy Lau aka wai zai, but have become Andy Lau Inc.
Last March, he launched his interactive website, andylau.com, & became a strategic partner in Web.cc, which was granted the licence to market Internet domain names with the suffix .cc in China. If that’s not enough to get the cash registers ringing, he’s also bought over 40% of Teamwork Production, a film production co he started in ’91, & announced a HK $500 mil (S$117 mil) investment spread over 3 yrs.
”Why am I doing this?”
he rhetorises, “Because if other people are the boss, the products will never be mine, & the quality will suffer. It is not that I don’t want to be involved in film productions by others---I only wish for the opportunity to do good work.” And it looks like he’s getting his wish fulfilled in time for X’mas.
His Teamwork venture, FTK, which raked in HK$40 mil (S$9.4) at the local box office, has been selected by the HK Movie Production Association to represent HK in next yr’s Oscars as a possible nominee in the Best Foreign Film category. Considering the almost absurd hot streak Andy had been on recently, it’s difficult to remember a time when he wasn’t quite so invincible.
But scan down his Brief Backgroun & it’s there in black & white: Andy belonged to the School of Hard Knocks. The tale of Lau Tak Wah’s destiny is so familiar by now that---like their national pledge---his fans can possibly recite it from memory. He grew up in Taipo, a poor rural homestead in the New Territories, where his upbringing was a mix of Grizzly Adams & eight-water-fetching-trips-a-day village bohemianism. After entering TVB 10th Acting Academy in ’80, he marinated his acting chops in bit parts until his first leading role in On The Wrong Track (1983). A contractual dispute with TVB, however, launched his movie career proper& he went on to make over 90 flicks, not to mentioned his fair number of platinum-pushing discs.
It’s as close to heaven as
any earthbound Heavenly King can get…or is it? Andy’s Mr. Professional persona has always been one of his biggest assets. He is nimble, but not as effortlessly co-ordinated like Aaron Kwok. He is lyrical, but not musical-leading-man like Jacky Cheung. But he’s smart.
Smart enough to choose to be who his fans want him to be: unattached (not likely to be true), accessible (could be true), & committed to delivering his goods even if his snowy boxers are blowing thro’ a windy slit in his pants (definitely true).
Whether his marriage to M’sian Zhu Liqian in Vancouver in’93 is fact or fiction, the truth remains the sweet-looking cutie reportedly fled to his family home at Kadoli Hill after her cover was blown while trying to sneak into the Coliseum a few months ago. Yet, Andy ahs cleverly kept the fantasies of his fans on the life support by refusing point-blank to talk abt his love life. In other matters, however, the star is nothing if not fan-friendly, flying to-&-fro TW for get-togethers without the knowledge of the press, & shrugging off a tile thrown at him by a loony lass as a mere ‘gift. Geez.
The jury is still out on whether a life such as this qualifies as Utopia, but it’s too late for Andy ever go back to being just an anonymous guy from a hick hamlet. It’s possible that, by making showbiz his business with Teamwork & NMG, he’s trying to garner more control over his future because, for now, all he can be certain of is that life has to go on 10, 20 years from today. Even in heaven.
Date: 14 Nov 01 ‘Fun Tao Ai’ (??? actual name), a 3rd category Japanese av star is coming to HK tomorrow to film in nmg’s TV serial ‘Money God’ in Journey to The West, starring Dicky Cheung, as a spider demon.
Sources said that nmg encountered problems in getting her initially. As T Sorimochi & T Tokiwa, she wishes to enter Asian market but only wanted to film movie & not TV serial. But when she learned that the serial will be telecasted in areas much wider than movie, she agreed.
She came with a lot of requests, other than asking for best hotel, she wants to bring her own hair dresser, make up pro & 2 assistants, giving nmg a headache. Because to sign her 2 units, abt 10 episodes, is already v expensive. Now with an additional 4 workers budget will be overshot. It is hope that she understands HK & Mainland filming situation, to cut down on expenditure by bringing less people.
T Tokiwa had never wanted a personal hairdresser or make up pro. Actually this is a Chinese period drama series, the Japanese would not know how to do a Chinese ancient make up. Japanese hair dresser would not know how the hair do goes. She may end up one looking like a Japanese artiste. In Mainland China, filming in DunHuang or Beijing, if she sees the quarters at filming site, she may scream, “You call this the best hotel?”

12/11---Today ‘Ai Jin Ru Mong’ had a praying session to open camera, feeling extremely happy, because see many old friends, such as Anita la, ever since ‘Moon Warrior’, this time co-acting with Anita again, we are already old partner, so we have lots in cohesion. There are also some new faces from Teamwork. The feeling is v close. Hope everyone gives them the support!
Date: 13 Nov 01 Media Asia & Teamwork, the 2 big movie companies, collaborated for the first time to film a movie called Ai Jin Ru Mong (Love U Like Dream). The movie showcases big stars such as Anita, Andy & Sandra Ng. It is slated for release during X’mas.
Andy Lau, Anita Mui, Sandra Ng, Cherrie Yin, Lin Jia Tong, Tang Xiao Huan & her ex bf ,dance intructor Sunny Wong were at Yu Yong yesterday for the show shooting opening ceremony.
Anita acted with Andy 9 yrs ago in Moon Warrior. In this new movie she & Sandra are both female leads, so the name of movie may be changed to Ai Jin Ro Mong Pang (‘Mong Pang’ or Dream Partner is the name of an Anita’s song)
Anita was to play a cameo role initially, but now she is a female lead too. She said she was not sure abt this, her duty is to dance. Sandra who was the initial sole female lead was not bothered at all, she quipped,” I have acted till now, most important is money!” She said Andy has always told her abt Anita’s role, which is important.
On Edison having a dance competition with Andy in movie, Andy clarified, “Since when was it told, now still being discussed, the script changes everyday.” He said shooting of movie is already 1/3 way. 2 big dance scene have not filmed yet. He has asked Shirley & Sunny to do the choreography.
Will Andy take in students in dancing? Andy said he does not know how to be a good teacher, he is good at scolding people.!
Both Anita & Sandra are in showbiz 20 yrs, Sandra said they may hold a big party together. Andy may sing a duet with Anita, a happy song, in celebration.

Andrew Liu has always wanted to film Storm Raider II, but Golden Harvest couldn’t come out with the cost, also, Aaron Kwok does not want to film the movie again, so Golden Harvest forwent filming this movie. But Andrew does not give up, after joining Teamwork, he successfully convinced Andy, the boss, to film ‘Storm Raider Meeting Nameless Again’, with Ekin & Louis Koo acting. But after some calculation, Andy feels that the cost is too high, it is v hard to recover cost, so the plan is now put on hold.

Most of HK hot stars dare not act as baddies, but in the last few yrs, Andy is brave to change, he is willing to act old, in FTK he acted as a pervert, showing his multiple attractiveness.

11/11---Did not sleep last nite, so fell asleep on the plane this am. After coming back to HK, rushed to a press con, to introduce Media Asia Teamwork Cup. This is the first time I am involved in this type of activity, hope friends in the circle can give me more support! After that, continued with filming. In the site, I discuss the script with the other actors, almost no time to rest, but it is happy working with them.
Date: 12 Nov 01 To show solidarity in movie circle, the 2 big HK movie co, Media Asia & Teamwork, initiated to gather other companies for an activity called Media Asia Teamwork Cup, to be held on the 17th & 18th.
Andy Lau, Anya, Cerrie Yin, Cai Anqiao, …etc attended a press con yesterday at Central for the 48th Macau Grand Prix ‘Media Teamwork Cup’.
Together with Anita Mui, Sandra Ng, Edison Chan, he will lead 30 Ferraries, costing 30 over mils, to parade on the race course. Artistes in Media Asia, Teamwork, Golden Harvest, China Star such as Daniel Wu, Maggie Q & Amanda Strang, will be taking part.
Andy said he had planned the activity for 4 to 5 mths.
Andy has just returned from China, he said, “There is no upper limit to budget, Media Asia contributed the most, I welcome any other movie co to invest in. This activity is to unit movie circle. It is different from Jacky Cup. If Jacky Cup resumes next year, we can combine the activity.”
The activity other than promoting the new movie, Love U Like Dream, the first collaboration between Media Asia & TW was to gather unity in the circle. He expressed the wish that talents from HK, the actors & producers, will not be drained to foreign lands by the foreigners.
The event is not to compete for speed, as long as the race is completed, everyone can get a cup. As he will be leading, their speed is limited. Would he be like Jacky, making a promise to marry those ladies who are injured? “Cannot finish marrying, so safety comes first.”
The activity will give movie producers & those involved a chance to meet. As big production attracts more viewers, one co may not be able to make it, & also risk is higher, cooperation among the co is encouraged.
Andy met Mrs Heung in Shanghai by chance, she told him abt holding a press con for Cecilia to clear her name with Daniel Chan. Andy joked, “I have good character..don’t call a press con to talk on me…” He meant it a joke only.

Title: Last concert in China Concert Tour
11/11---Andy had his concert in Shanghai last night & completed China Concert Tour officially.
The audience came early, abt 50 to 60,000 of them. Maybe it was the last nite, & with enthusiastic support from fans, Andy appeared relax & performed at peak form. The audience clapped & cheered. But the fans were too hot, when Andy was having scene of man-made rain, there was a quarrel among the fans because of seats. Those from behind rushed to the front, it was chaotic. Andy stopped for abt 10 mins, he became the order controller. He urged the fans to return to their seats, dispersed the tight crowd before he could start singing again. This is the first time such thing happened.
Finally, the concert was over smoothly & v successful. Andy is v satisfied & hopes to meet the fans in China again.
D f al.com
10/11---Finally finish concert tour in China! Though it is the 3rd time having concert in Shanghai, enthusiasm form fans has not changed, this makes me v happy.
Tonite is the last station, together with the working staff, appeared relax, had gp photo taken at the back stage!
But maybe because the fans were too passionate, there was fighting of seats during concert, but was settled quickly, & had not affected the concert too much.
Maybe because have finished doing the concert, everyone feel happy. We played a game, that is to draw faces. Haha! Everyone drew & laughed, we played till late at nite, yee~~~~only abt one hr left before going back to HK, all are not sleeping already.
First Asian MTV Awards 2002 will be held on 2nd Feb in S’pore.
Nominated names for 11 categories of the 'Most Popular Local Singer’ awards were announced lately. Andy Lau, Jacky Cheung, Kelly Chen, Nic Tse & Sammi Cheng are the 5 nominated singers for HK. Surprisingly Faye Aaron & Leon are not on the list, taking their place is Nic Tse.
The organizer disclosed that selection of the top 5 HK singers is based on the ability of the singers or the ‘substance’. Other than solo concerts, they have outstanding performances in HK music circle. Andy & Jacky are both World OYP, Kelly releases albums in HK & TW & is popular, Sammi is outstanding in movie & music, Nic though has the least experience but has his own style of music, is liked by many Asians young people.
Source: Sudden Weekly Title: Andy refused to lower his price to film ROOT II
Everyone will remember Andy won Best Actor award with the movie ROOT. The author is puzzled, why is he not taking part in ROOT II ?
After some searching, it was found out that he had insisted on not reducing his price. The author knows when Andy was filming ROOT & LOAD with Johnnie To, because of good script, he has lowered his price 2 times to act in both movies, (rumoured to be 4 mil). But Andy is of Heavenly status, cant be filming for you at friendship price every time! Also it was said Johnnie’s beloved actress Sammi is receiving 4.5 mil fee, Andy of course would not reduce further! It was because of disagreement on the fee, Johnnie chose Ekin Cheung instead!
The author feels that this move by Andy is reasonable. FTK by Teamwork is a success, if not for the digit, there is no need to bend one self!
9/11---Arrived in Shanghai today. The hotel where I stay is within the stadium. As I enter my room I can see the place where the concert is to be. The workers are setting up the stage, hardly ever have a chance to be so near, to see the process of setting up the stage. From nil to a stage, the feeling is v satisfied! But seeing the appearance of the stage, thinking tomorrow I would be performing on the stage, this is my last station in China, looking forward to this v much, hope the Shanghai fans can share a wonderful nite with me .
Date: 10 Nov 01 9/11---Andy had his first concert in Hefei last night. Hardly could see their idol once, the fans bought their tic early & filled up the stadium.
The weather was cold, but this had not daunted the fervour of fans. The yelled ‘Andy I love U’ as soon as Andy appeared on the stage. It shows the prowess of Andy the superstar!
But a small event happened in the middle of the concert. In the previous stations, as the weather was too cold, the water used for the artificial rain was changed to warm water. But not sure what happened, it was cold water last nite. But Andy still continued with the performance. Even though the cold weather made him ‘trembled’ as he sang!

Edison Chan will act in Love U Like Dream, as a street Break dancer. Filming will start at the end of the month. In the movie, he feels that Andy is not good enough, so he challenges him to a dance competition. But of course finally he loses. Edison has to practise hard, hope he still can, as he has some small problems with his wrists. Just wait & see how exciting the dance competition can be!

8/11---This is the first time I go to Hefei. The other working staff had already arrived 2 days earlier than me. They told me the hotel where I stay has a v calming & beautiful environment . I found out it is as what they told me when I arrived. The surroundings are planted with flowers & trees, feel as if in a garden. Never expect the place which I am not too familiar with, the environment is so pure & quite. The locals are v friendly. Nite time they play fireworks often. The place here makes one feel ‘living life’.
Date: 9 Nov 01 Contrary to his quietness with fans a nite ago, Andy in his 21/2 hr concert gig last night in Hefei displayed his full superstar charisma. Under waves & waves of cheering & applause, he completed his ‘close contact’ with 10,000 over audience.
It was breezy nite with cold wind, but this had not dampened the fervour of fans. Many kept yelling Andy who wore only a singlet on the stage to put on more clothes. Together with 30 over dancers, he danced & sang 30 over songs.
The concert production was of extreme high standard. Building a ‘flying stage’ in the center of stadium was indeed extraordinary. The innovative approach created waves of climax. The best section is the artificial rain & fatso look. Fans felt heart-ache to see Andy in the rain, & were v entertained by his fatty look. This concert was different from the others, camera & video-cams were forbidden. This is because of copyright of his concert songs & many of concert innovations need to be protected. All TV & radio stns were not allowed to telecast live. Concert vcd will be out only 2 yrs later.
